About

In 2012, my husband and I moved back to my hometown in the Midwest. On a very tight budget, but looking for something we could grow into, we stumbled upon our dream house in disguise. Between the original (35 year old) carpet in the kitchen and downstairs bathroom, the open concept master bedroom (Read: no bathroom door), and the three acres of weeds and poison ivy, our new-to-us forever home was far from perfect (and still is, mind you). Something of a funhouse, there are uneven walls, narrow hallways that open to humongous rooms, and painfully steep stairs. It's quirky and full of challenges (as most previously-loved houses are), but it's also full of potential.

We now live here, just on the outskirts of town, along with our toddler son, dog, and two rebellious chickens. I’ve discovered that this whole diy business comes with a pretty sharp learning curve, and I am learning how to embrace the flaws in our work.  I no longer believe in the idea of perfection, but rather, that all the little imperfections are what bring charm and personality to a home. This is our “forever home,” so we’ve chosen to focus on adding character, not property value.

Together we spend our time ripping up moldy flooring, cooking, trying to learn the art of gardening, and taking cocktail hour strolls around our property with our sweet “Buggy Boy.” We're full of flaws, and so is our home. But hopefully you'll appreciate them as much as we do.
